Why is it that the Mini brand is considered to be reliable in Britain, but, here in the States it isn't?

Coming from Europe to America, we use cars much differently here. My guess is because there's more rural area here where hardy trucks would be preferred. A lot of Americans need to haul things which a Mini cannot do. I'm not sure how else to explain it but we tend to be rougher on our vehicles in my opinion.
